For the injured or wounded persons lying out there in a area of great danger and fighting then medevac is really the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s all about making it until you are retrieved by medical personell and doctors than can take care about your injuries and stabilise your situation.
Before that can happen you are depending on your fellow troops (if you are in the army) to stay out of harms way untill the help can arrive. Then usually you will be evacuated in a helicopter and taken to the field hospital.

Medevac is short for medical evacuation. It is the med from medical and the evac from evacuation, which are pulled together.
Medevac is a term widely used in military language as it is what they do, when they need to go evacuate wounded personell in the field. It is also widely used by international organizations, which operate in conflict ridden areas like United Nations and other helping organizations.
